David is a highly experienced commercial technology lawyer who has advised and led numerous large outsourcing, system integration (SI), cyber, cloud, global, and local software, software as a service (SaaS), and intellectual property deals in over 40 jurisdictions, covering all industry sectors, including public sectors. Many of these deals involved resolving complex regulatory, data protection, and competition law issues. He particularly enjoys working with management (including C-level) in both supplier and customer organisations to overcome potential ‘showstoppers’.
Following a 15-year career as a Royal Navy Warfare Officer (during which he qualified as a Mandarin Chinese linguist), David qualified and practised as a solicitor at Clyde & Co (in London and Hong Kong) for six years and then as an in-house solicitor at PCCW (Hong Kong and Asia Pacific); Reuters Group company (EMEA) and CSC/ DXC (global) for more than twenty years. With a deep understanding of working as in-house counsel in global corporations, he now particularly enjoys working as a quasi-in-house lawyer, advising many small technology start-ups as they grow and have to navigate the best routes to contract with those global giants.
